Dr. Marita Niemelae

Dr Niemela is the Director of the Energy Business Unit at the CSIRO. She is supporting a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, economists and business professionals in solving current and future energy challenges to enable the transition to lower emissions energy future.

Dr Niemela has over 30 years of experience in energy, fuels, and process industry sectors in research, development, consulting and engineering. During her career, she has held research positions in academia and applied institutes such at VTT Processes and VTT Chemical Technology wherein she contributed to EU research programs and international collaborations. She has further built her capabilities through leadership and management positions in small, medium size companies and global corporations as well as advisory boards. She is a member of the Global Board Ready Women network.

Dr Niemela has focused on development and commercialisation of new technologies and solutions throughout her career in R&D, pilot operations, technical Due Diligence, market driven business development, strategic planning, and operational management of organizations up to 550 experts and engineers. As a member of several management teams, she has been engaged with corporate restructuring, organizational development and related change leadership.
