Dr. Silvana Ovaitt is a researcher at NREL working with the Photovoltaics (PV) performance and reliability group. She has a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Masters in Optics from the University of Arizona. She is co-PI for the Hands-On PV Experience (HOPE) Workshop, which brings PhD students in photovoltaics for one immersive week of learning and cell fabrication at NREL every year. Her research focus is on bifacial PV and agriPV optical and electrical performance and modeling, as well as Circular Economy analysis in the framework of the Energy Transition, for which she develops and maintains various open-source software. She served as IEEE PVSC Conference’s High School Program Chair on 2020 and Women in PV chair from 2021-2022 and is a long-standing organizing committee member of the bifacialPV Workshops, as well as member of IEA Task 13 and PVQAT Group 15. She also has developed and presented tutorials on PV modeling and python at PyData Global, PVSC, PVPMC.
